July 27, 2010 - A Clearwater resident died on Sunday evening after she was hit by an SUV that then crashed into a building. According to reports at The Ledger, the victim has been identified as a 44-year-old woman from Clearwater. The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Police are still investigating how this tragic pedestrian accident happened, but they believe that a 51-year-old man was pulling out of a parking space outside Delta Realty when he mistakenly put his SUV into drive instead of reverse. Delta Realty is located at 604 Mandalay Avenue. His SUV surged forward, hitting the victim and crashing into the front window of the realty office. The victim was dragged into the building and pinned under the SUV. Pictures published at The Tampa Tribune show that the dark-colored SUV completely destroyed the front of the realty office.

After first responders were able to free her from the wreckage, the victim was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where she later died. Police have not said if the 51-year-old driver will face any charges in connection with this accident, but they continue to investigate.
