Study | Fatal Injuries Linked to Bad Roads | Fatal Injury Lawyer Clearwater Florida

This holiday weekend is a big travel time for many Americans!

The Washington Post covered an article published by the St. Petersburg Times concerning the incidence of fatal accidents and their relationship to bad roads. Their findings are worth noting.

The study by a group who represents trade groups and unions interested in funding road construction,
reports bad highway design conditions are a factor in more than half of the fatal accidents in the U.S ----- that's more than speed-related deaths, fatal injuries from drunken driving or deaths caused by a failure to wear seat belts.

Road related conditions contribute to 22,000 deaths each year and cost more than $217 billion.

They recommend numerous improvements including bringing roads up to current standards, adding and widening shoulders, widening or replacing narrow bridges, using more brightly colored pavement markings and others.

The study notes our interstate system accounts for 45,000 miles of our nation's 3.9 million road miles. Consider the number of cars on the roads this weekend --- many people come into our office after a car wreck and say they thought it would never happen to them.

Statistics are sobering reminders, however, ---- almost 42,000 people die each year in traffic accidents.
