Man Hit and Killed While Lying Prone on State Road 60 in Polk County

For the second time in less than two weeks, a pedestrian was killed on a Tampa Bay area roadway after lying down in the roadway and being struck by a vehicle. According to the local media, Quinn Gilchrist was killed when a van ran him over after he laid down in the middle of State Road 60 in Polk County.

The accident is still being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. According to troopers, Mr. Gilchrist’s own vehicle became disabled on State 60. It appears Mr. Gilchrist left his vehicle and began walking. He did not go very far before he laid down in the road, and was eventually struck by a van.

Last week I reported on a similar incident that occurred on U.S. Highway 19 in Hernando County.
