July 22, 2010 - A Lakeland pedestrian died early Tuesday morning after he was hit by a car that then fled the scene. According to reports at My Fox Tampa Bay, the victim was walking near East Main Street in Lakeland when a car hit him before speeding off. The hit and run accident occurred around 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The victim has been identified as a 34-year-old man from Lakeland. Sadly, he could not be resuscitated by first responders and he died at the scene. There was one witness who saw this pedestrian accident and this witness described the car as "dark-colored." However, the make and model of the car are currently unknown. After striking the victim, the vehicle quickly crossed East Main Street and continued traveling southbound on U.S. 98, according to the witness.

The Lakeland Police Department continues to investigate this fatal hit-and-run accident, and they are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver. If you have any information, please call the Lakeland Police Department at (863) 834-2558.
