High Incidence of Uninsured Motorists Plague Florida Roads

A study released this week by the Insurance Research Council reveals Florida has more uninsured drivers than most states. According to the study, the number of uninsured motorists is linked to the state’s unemployment rate. Those states with higher estimates were New Mexico, Mississippi, Alabama, and Oklahoma. (Tampa Tribune, Jan. 22, 2009)  

This number is expected to increase due to the unfortunate effects of the economic downturn according to Elizabeth Sprinkel, senior vice president of the IRC. The study suggests that one in six U.S. drivers will be uninsured by 2010.
