Gender Matters for Florida Traffic Accident Statistics

There's a definite difference in the number of fatalities when looking at the gender of the driver involved. Even though the number of licensed Florida drivers is pretty evenly split between male and female, men accounted for nearly 76% of all traffic fatalities last year.

Fatalities involving the driver of the vehicle resulted in the following divides by gender: 

• 778 male drivers killed versus 341 female drivers (total: 1,119)
• 367 male motorcyclists killed versus 9 female motorcyclists (total: 376)
• 86 male bicyclists killed versus 13 female bicyclists (total: 99)
• 338 male pedestrians killed versus 141 female pedestrians (total: 479) 

Some of these Florida traffic accident statistics come from the fact that more men ride motorcycles than women and other similar data. However, psychology professor Paul Spector of the University of South Florida offers the theory that, "males tend to take more risks and be more aggressive" when analyzing the gender divide in traffic accidents.
