A Lake Wales man, Lewis E. Crawford, was struck and killed by a car driven by Jerry E. Daniels when he stepped into the path of Daniel's car.
Authorities said Crawford was 250 ft. from the crosswalk and there were no street lights where he was hit by the car.
Daniels remained with the accident victim until the Florida Highway Patrol arrived on the scene.
Pedestrian accidents are an ever-growing percentage of fatal and non-fatal injuries nationwide. Serious personal injury or death of too many Florida pedestrians result from both drivers and pedestrians not knowing Florida's traffic laws -especially regarding pedestrian crosswalks.
This news article reports, however, the pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk and the accident happened at night, where there were no streetlights making it increasingly more difficult for the driver of a car to see or expect to see the pedestrian.
