Fatal Car Crash | 5 -Car Pile-up on I-75 | Fatal Car Crash Lawyer | Tampa Florida

I-75, in Tampa, was the scene of a fatal car crash involving a 5-car pileup, on Saturday.

Rachel Edwards, a 34-year-old Plant City woman, tragically, died in the collision. Reports from the FHP states the crash was triggered by Jeffrey Nicoll, Jr., 21, the driver of a 1993 Oldsmobile who rear-ended a 2001 Toyota Rav4 driven by Jason Edwards.

Edwards' vehicle spun into the right lane colliding with a Chevy pick-up truck. Passenger, Harry Edwards, 6, is in critical condition while Jason Edwards and Jake Edwards, 3, suffered minor injuries.

All of the passengers in Nicoll's vehicle -- Kevin Land, Sara Sims, and Jessica Phelps-- suffered serious injuries.

Florida Highway Patrol reports say Nicoll's failed to slow down as traffic became heavy on I-75. Apparently bad weather was also a contributing factor in this horrible chain reaction crash.

Many questions remain unanswered, yet a research study by the Federal Highway Administration cited speed as a related factor in 30 percent of fatal crashes and 12 percent of all crashes. Excessive speed for conditions was identified as the second most frequent causal factor.

Although an investigation of the accident will be conducted, the potenital combination of speed and hazardous conditions may have been contributing factors.

It will be up to an investigation to determine how the accident was caused.

Research has demonstrated inexperienced drivers often do not recognize the need to reduce speed in uncertain or hazardous conditions to provide additional time for decision-making.
