A Child's Firework's Story is the true story of a child who was seriously injured in a fireworks display accident, on the 4th of July, at a neighborhood family get together. It is a reminder to us all of the unpredictabe nature of fireworks.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission website published their findings in a report in which they analyzed fireworks-related deaths and injuries during 2006.

We include a summary of some of the highlights below as a reminder of their danger :

• There were 11 deaths from fireworks during 2006.

• Fireworks were involved in an estimated 9,200 injuries treated in U. S. hospital emergency departments during calendar year 2006

• In Florida, fireworks caused 134 non-fatal injuries from 2000-2006

• Most Injuries from fireworks occur at home

• More than half of the injuries were burns. Burns were the most common injury to all parts of the body except the eyes and head areas, where contusions, lacerations, and foreign bodies in the eye occurred more frequently.

• Among different types of fireworks, firecrackers were associated with the greatest number of estimated injuries

• The parts of the body most often injured were hands, eyes and head, face and ear.
